In a deal announced yesterday, the Walt Disney Company has agreed to acquire Marvel Entertainment, Inc.. and their over 5,000 Marvel characters including the rights to movie and game-based characters.
The Marvel characters, which include Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America and Fantastic Four , appeal to the young male population which, many agree, will compliment Disney's current lineup of characters geared more toward girls.
We think this is great news. We're hoping this opens up opportunities for artists to include these characters in their line of collectibles in the future.

April 24, 2009 - Enesco LLC, of Ithaca, NY, has acquired Department 56, from Lenox Corporation. Included in the acquisition are Department 56's holiday lines and brands including Snowbabies, Villages, and Possible Dreams. Many of Department 56's current employees have been retained by Enesco and the giftware manufacturer intends to keep the offices in California and Minnesota.
Enesco's current brands include Jim Shore, My Little Kitchen Fairies, Our Name is Mud and more. And, in a previous announcement, Enesco will be acquiring the Charming Tails brand with the acquisition expected to be completed in May
Enesco, of Itasca, IL, is working on an acquisition of the Charming Tails brand from Fitz and Floyd Inc of Lewisville, TX. The sale is expected to be finalized in May 2009 and an introduction of Enesco's new product line to retailers at gift shows starting in June.
